Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party
mickeyminnie_halloween_2008.jpgWhen the Disney characters dress up for Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party this September and October, Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse will be debuting a whole new look. Mickey has traded his scarecrow costume for stunning purple and orange eveningwear fit for a Halloween ball. Not to be outdone, Mickey's best girl, Minnie Mouse, exchanged her witch costume for a party dress to complement Mickey's attire.

For Mickey, it's a top hat and purple tails. For Minnie, it's a party dress with a purple hat with an orange ribbon - bright and colorful, befitting the fun on 26 evenings between Sept. 5 and Oct. 31 when Magic Kingdom hosts the popular after-hours party.

A liquid legacy

magicmoment.pngThe hot asphalt threatens to consume the watery canvas as custodial hosts with dripping mops in hand dart from side-to-side and top-to-bottom, as they quickly bring to life a smiling image of Mickey Mouse on Main Street U.S.A. at Magic Kingdom Park. It’s reminiscent of the dueling-mop scene in Fantasia as they splash liquid from seemingly endless buckets of water onto the pavement.

Curious Guests gather as Mickey Mouse’s facade becomes larger and more recognizable. An excited child squeals, “Mommy, take a picture,” to a laughing mom, who is already taking her camera from her bag. As more children gather, the artists invite them to help fill in Mickey’s ears, and the masterpiece is complete.

Cast Members distribute $54,000 in Minnie Grants

minniegrant.pngEarlier this year, Cast Members had the chance to become involved in the new Teacherrific Minnie Grants program, in which they could nominate a specific school or classroom for a $500 grant that will provide funding for specialized equipment and electronic learning tools.

Brian Butler, a bellman at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, was excited to have the opportunity to apply for a Minnie Grant, to give to a teacher who made a difference in his son’s life.

Johnson’s classroom now will be able to purchase additional books as well as a "gathering mat" for the kindergartners.

Disney Cast Members raise money for United Arts

encore.pngMaking music for charity’s sake, the Encore! Cast and Orchestra, a volunteer ensemble of nearly 300 Disney Cast Members, struck a high note by raising a record $25,940 for United Arts of Central Florida.

“Definitely, it’s amazing for us that we exceeded our goal and set a record,” said Encore! producer and co-founder Ray Fournier. “Our group started with nothing more than a dream six years ago and has been fueled by the passion of Cast Members who want to lend their talents toward making a difference in their community.”
