Castmember

Social networking for past, present, and future Disney Castmembers!

I know this will not get a lot of sympathy but, my wife and I are CT's who used to work during the winter and would put in about 24 - 30 days each year. Honestly, our jobs at WDW were the most fun we've ever had working in our 40 + year working history (we started working when we were 5. eh, give or take a few years). In fact, I put in more effort to get my minimum wage job at WDW than I did for any of my jobs in my professional career. However, we now are in a working situation in which we no longer have winters off and we only get to work about 4 - 7 days each year. We were a little nuts as we would spend $1000 to earn $200, just for the privilege to be referred to as "Cast Members". Needless to repeat, we really do (for now) and did enjoy our WDW experience.

It has just come to our attention that we now must work 150 hours each year to maintain the CT status which has really bummed us out!

We know there are no miracles that will happen to change this "not too pixie dusted" policy change but I just wanted to do a little whining (for an old guy) to see what reaction might develop.

Thanks for noticing me.

That is really a shame!  I can't wait until I am able to be referred to as a Cast Member.  I live in dreary Indiana and want, so much, to relocate to sunny Florida, and specifically the Disney World area.  I have returned to college in the hopes that it will give me a better chance to secure a position there, once I am able to move.  I have two children in school.  One in 8th and the other in 9th.  Once they graduate, my plan is to follow my dream of becoming a Cast Member at the Happiest Place on Earth!
you have my sympathy ( and I think a whole lot of snowbirds)  because We are in the same boat.  Just working the food and Wine festival never gave us 150 hours  and like you said paying out more that taking in just to have fun and brag about working at WDW.  Than they made the cut off in the middle of the Food And Wine so you get less hour (we didn't make it this your because my husband got a job he couldn't pass up.  I always thougth six hours was a little light but the jump to 150 is killing us.  I am hoping we can use the tickets we still has for this year and they will send us the holidad package for one big grand finale.  Maybe we could get a chain leter going and have all the snowbirds sign it and send it to the top mouse?    Well thank you for letting me vent

My wife spoke with someone in HR and was told that our passes earned before the change will be honored. I've been told that there are many who get the job, get the I.D., work 1 day and then become "unavailable" for the rest of the year and they are the reason the 150 rule came into effect. Some will say it costs the company too much to keep us on but in this computer age, I find that hard to believe. It's not like there's a room full of cast members constantly doing paperwork to keep my employment going. Once we're in the computer, we're just a tiny little dot of data that takes no time or money to maintain.

However on the other hand... I was working in GolfOps and now that the Palmer Golf Management Company has taken over the Disney courses (another out-sourcing error I fear but I will only dwell on that if someone wants me to) I would no longer have a job anyway. I've been told that they interviewed all existing GolfOps hourly CM's to see if they wanted to remain with Palmer but for a SUBSTANTIAL cut in pay. They would also no longer be CM's but Disney "Participants" or something like that.

Oh well!

Glad to hear they will honor our comps this year.  wonder if they will send us the hiliday package
